It’s kinda sad how people get mad at us for the leakira thing. It’s just an au and people act like we’re abandon klance or vld. We don’t, it’s really just an au where we have our own little headcanons. I know some people call it a reboot or smth but honestly, it’s not. It’s just our au we enjoy. :’)
I understand that, but you have to see how this event has correlated directly with a few artists (And big names ones too. I won’t name them because I’m not exactly here to spill tea, just to keep myself and others informed, since we are all apparently sooo way deep in this fandom, we cannot escape the inevitable information crashing at us, might it be accurate or not.) sorry– wow I got off-track there. But you have to see how this whole thing correlated directly with season 7 being released, and the “popular” opinion that it was less than satisfactory, and artists “leaving the fandom” because of it. Hate being lashed out at our VAs, and all the usual shenanigans a lot of us still can’t quite wrap our heads around, because why can’t everyone just be decent, right? I hope you’re following me here…
So yeah, we might as well talk about all this.
I promise you, I want to find this entire thing cute. I ship Klance too, yaknow. Despite the majority of the fandom keeping me at bay from the ship because of hateful and childish behavior. I ship it anyway.
But it’s a free-for-all show right now, and of course we are mostly seeing the big picture.
The big picture, is people jumping on a train, while the issue of hate has still not been dealt with in this fandom (and probably never will). So yeah, it feels like a creation made out of spite. Not “an AU we enjoy just for giggles, hehe you guys lighten up, comon.” I’ve seen a few of the posts, bc as anyone, I was super curious about what was going on. (BTW: y’all drawing for this AU are fucking amazing artists. I wish we could get along, for real, despite our differences in opinions/ships.) There’s one where Leandro and Akira are looking at Lance and Keith, going: “Oh we’re you but better (or gayer, but it still gives the vibe that the “new klance” is better than the canon friends we have in the show. What a message, huh.)”
And that’s just not the type of emotion you want to base a creation on.
This AU, even if it’s “just for fun”, has gotten enough traction that it has actually created its own trend. That’s something. And whatever you think this is, enough people see it as a potential reboot, then that’s what it is. That’s the fun with media. You have to learn to really be clear with your message, or time it better than this was. Because it won’t simply be misinterpreted, after a while. Its message will actually change.
Personally, I’m not mad. That’s going strongly a bit. But I don’t want to mingle in this whole affair. Because I’m just fine with season 7, and as I understand it, this AU is a coping mechanism for S7. Which is unnecessary.
Not to mention I expect all the antis in this fandom are probably super down with this ship (hehe, I sang that in my head), and I’m not even going there. That’s an issue of my own, seeing how I’ve personally been treated by them in the last year.
You may say “it’s not a reboot”
But at least half of you guys are tagging it as a reboot.
I’m just saying. Sorry if this wasn’t your intention, but it is what it has become to any onlooker, and apparently, even the people taking part in the hype.
I agree.
I’m incredibly impressed by the creativity and talent that these artists and other contributors bring to the table. I don’t want to invalidate that. I can’t draw a clean circle to save my life, and you guys are amazing.
But all the same, I’m in the mindset that “Leakira” and the AU-type world that they’re buidling through this project kind of manifests a pre-existing undercurrent that has always run pretty steadily and superficially throughout this fandom – y’all were here for Klance, but not necessarily here for Voltron: Legendary Defender. And when S7 didn’t deliver you that… Well, I rest my case.
It’s kind of similar to the case that somebody else brought up a few months back: “Don’t HC bi Lance if you can’t handle him having a canon/endgame romantic relationship with a girl (i.e., Allura).” This fandom is pretty good at getting incredibly fixated on certain things – Klance, Black Paladin Lance, etc. – but if those particular things don’t happen in the exact way as hoped for, apparently, it’s time to jump ship completely? I don’t really believe that that’s something an actual fan – fan, not fandom member – would do, but ¯_(ツ)_/¯
