I hate how all diversity is now seen as being ”forced” by the right wingers. now you have to look out for ”too much diversity” or its seen as pandering to the left. i hate it. no one can win.

It’s a difficult situation because it is being forced a lot of times and the people forcing it will tell you as much. They’ll come right out and say that they went out of their way to “build a diverse team” or “make sure marginalized groups are represented”. That rubs people the wrong way because despite the flowery language it means people or characters were chosen at least partially based on their immutable traits.

There’s also all the double standards when it comes to diversity. No one thought Black Panther needed to be more diverse despite it’s objective lack of diversity. At the same time people complained about the game Kingdom Come Deliverance and its lack of diversity even though it was historically accurate. Changing a white character to a poc, a straight character gay, or a male character female is all very progressive but doing the reverse is outrageous and unacceptable. I mean the BBC has literally put out ads saying they’re hiring non-white people for certain positions. Could you imagine what would happen if some company did the reverse today?

All that said, you can go too far in just assuming that everyone who isn’t a white guy is just there for the sake of diversity. I would love to go back to a time where we weren’t all hyper focused on these things. I remember watching a lot of stuff in the past that would be considered “diverse” now. It never felt forced or heavy handed but now it often does. Hiring practices that would have been considered discriminatory in the past are called progressive now as long as they benefit the right people. Everyone seems to have an ideological motive and it’s just exhausting.
