Headcanons aside, you should probably know that, in French, gender agrees with the thing you’re talking about, not the person.
So, when you are talking about a male friend you know and his sister, his is feminine in French, because the sister is female. So, it is easy for a French speaker to mistakenly say her sister, because “her” is the female form. In English, though, it’s supposed to match the person the sister belongs to, and the friend is male so it’s “him”.
