In American English (in nearly all dialects of it), “fortnight” is considered archaic and elitist. More common terms are “two weeks” or “couple weeks”. It’s (usually) understood that when someone says fortnight they mean two weeks, but it’s not a colloquial term here.

Unless you’re a fantasy writer. It’s common practice to use fortnight in fantasy writing, even in America, because of the linguistic connotation of the word.
